How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
The laser emits energy that selectively targets the melanin (pigment) at the base of the hair follicle. The follicle absorbs the laser energy, which is converted into heat and damages the hair-producing center of the hair follicle. This process prevents further hair growth.
At Cornerstone Plastic Surgery, we use advanced options like the Cynosure Icon MaxR Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) systems for hair removal. These systems are safe and effective. Since laser hair removal is performed by our well-trained, experienced laser technicians, you can expect ideal results.
Depending on the technology used, it can take anywhere from 4-8 laser hair removal sessions to achieve your ideal results.
How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Last?
The results of laser hair removal can be near-permanent for some people, but it won’t get rid of unwanted hair forever.
Laser hair removal can diminish hair growth for several months in most cases, but maintenance treatments may be necessary to minimize hair regrowth. When hair grows back after treatment, it is usually thinner and sparser than before.
Why Hair Continues to Grow After Laser Hair Removal
Hair grows in phases – anagen (growth), catagen (transitional), telogen (resting), and exogen (shedding). The laser energy can only treat hair when it is in the anagen phase. Since hair will be at different stages of the growth cycle during laser hair removal, you will continue to see hair growth until the recommended course of treatment is complete.
