REMOVE EXCESS SKIN AROUND THE NECK AREA TO ACHIEVE A YOUTHFUL APPEARANCE

A neck lift can reduce visible signs of aging, such as a sagging neck around the jaw and the neck area. As we get older, our skin starts to sag, which can cause our confidence levels to drop. However, neck surgery can help you to achieve a youthful and radiant appearance.

WHAT IS A NECK LIFT?

TYPES OF NECK LIFTS

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?

HOW DOES A NECK LIFT WORK?

As we get older, the skin around our neck and jaw area can become lax. A neck lift is a cosmetic surgery that will reshape the skin around your jaw and neck area. Dr. Coville will lift your skin to provide a tighter and more youthful look, knocking years off your appearance!

Although most of our patients have a neck lift as a combined procedure with a facelift, isolated neck lifts have gained popularity for the right patient.

  • Traditional neck lift in combination with a facelift:
This is the most common way we improve the appearance of your neck.
Because your neck muscles are continuous with the tissues overlying your lower facial muscles, tightening everything at once will give you the best result possible in your neck.
  • Isolated neck lift with tightening of the neck muscles:
Often, we can tighten the bands in your neck—the result of the platysma muscles weakening—that appear as we age. This procedure is done through an incision below your chin. An isolated neck lift can be done alone or combined with some removal of skin behind your ears. During your consultation at our office in Linwood and Toms River, NJ, Dr. Fred Coville will discuss this option with you and let you know if this might be appropriate for you.
  • Direct neck lift
A direct neck lift is a beautiful procedure becoming more and more popular for the right patient. Dr. Coville takes the excess skin directly from the midline of your neck. It involves making a fine incision in the middle of your neck, but that scar heals beautifully in the mature patient. It can be done under local anesthesia in the office with very minimal downtime. It is also an excellent procedure for men who don’t want a full facelift scar. Ask Dr. Coville if this procedure is correct for you.
  • Minimally invasive neck tightening
For those who don’t want any visible scars and still have some good elasticity in the skin, minimally invasive neck tightening may be just what you need. Using the Neck Tite radiofrequency device, we can melt away any fat and tighten your skin with a minimally invasive procedure that takes under an hour in the office. Ask us for details.

You may be a good candidate for a neck lift:

  • If you are bothered by the signs of aging around your neck and jaw area.
  • If you are in good general health.
  • If you do not have any medical conditions that would impair healing.
  • If you do not smoke.
  • If you have realistic expectations, which is something that we will discuss with you.

Typically, a neck lift will take between one and three hours and can be done either under local or general anesthetic. Any excess fat or skin under your chin will be removed by Dr. Coville, creating a more defined and smoother look. Small incisions will be made to access the neck muscles, tightening them to eliminate bands of skin and lines for a more radiant look.

WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE?

When you undergo a neck lift at Cornerstone Plastic Surgery in New Jersey, Dr. Coville will provide you with aftercare advice, and it is essential to follow this. For example, you need to make sure your head is elevated for the first few days following the treatment, including when sleeping. This helps improve blood circulation and reduce discomfort.

The recovery time for a neck lift does depend on the extent of the surgery and the patient. However, most patients return to work and their typical daily activities within two weeks of surgery. It is normal for your neck to feel tight for a few weeks. You should expect some swelling and bruising as well, but this will subside on its own in a week or two. Sometimes, swelling may take a few weeks longer to fully reduce.

During your consultation at our office in Atlantic County, Dr. Coville will explain what to expect before, during, and after your neck lift procedure.
