Breast Augmentation

Women who feel uncomfortable about the appearance of their breasts often feel self-conscious. Breast implants can improve your breasts’ size, shape, and position. These implants come in several materials. Dr. Coville’s worldwide experience has helped form his perspective on the best implant options and techniques available.

What is Breast Augmentation With Implants?

Breast augmentation uses implants to add volume and change the appearance of the breasts. Dr. Coville uses a range of techniques to place your implants, depending on the type of implant and the details of your procedure. Implants provide an increase in breast volume that looks and feels natural. For the best results, only trust your breasts to a fully trained and experienced board-eligible or board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in this procedure.

What are Breast Implants Made Of?

Breast implants usually fall into two broad categories: silicone and saline. Within these categories, manufacturers offer a variety of options. Both types of implants are very safe and can provide excellent results, especially in the hands of an experienced surgeon.

Saline

These implants have a silicone shell filled with sterile saline (salt water). Some women prefer these implants because the body harmlessly absorbs the saline if they rupture. Dr. Coville will use saline implants for those who prefer them but usually recommends silicone.

Silicone

Silicone implants may contain a standard silicone gel or a more solid, cohesive silicone material (Gummy Bear implants). Silicone provides the most natural look and feel and less tendency to develop rippling or similar issues

Fat Transfer

Some women want an increase in breast volume but prefer to avoid implants. Fat transfer breast augmentation uses fat from elsewhere on your body to enhance your breasts. This procedure might be a good option if you want to add natural volume.

What is Recovery Like After Breast Augmentation With Implants?

While recovery differs for everyone, you can expect soreness and swelling after the procedure. People with low-activity jobs can often return to work after about a week. Full recovery takes four to six weeks, and Dr. Coville will approve when you are recovered enough to resume your exercise routine.

How Long Do Breast Implants Last?

Breast implants have a lifespan of ten to twenty years. However, many women have their implants replaced after about twelve to fourteen years. You may choose to have your implants replaced if you have developed complications such as scar tissue or if you want to upgrade to a more advanced implant. Implant ruptures are rare, and today’s implants have a lower risk of complications than ever before.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Implants?

Breast augmentation with implants is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures. Good candidates have reasonable expectations and no significant health issues. Ideal candidates have a clear picture of their desired results and are prepared to spend the necessary time recovering after the procedure.
