Labiaplasty

What is Labiaplasty and How Does it Work?

Body Sculpting Atlantic County

Some people may be self-conscious about their labia size and shape. Others may experience pain and discomfort when their labia gets tucked into their vagina during sexual intercourse. Dr. Coville at Cornerstone Plastic Surgery is ready to help patients improve the appearance of their labia and reduce discomfort in their genital area with vaginal rejuvenation procedures.

What is Labiaplasty (Vaginal Rejuvenation)?

Labiaplasty is a vaginal rejuvenation surgery that reshapes the size of the labia minora (inner lips), labia majora (outer lips), or both. Labiaplasty often involves reducing the size of the labia if patients feel it is too long or causes discomfort like pain and irritation. Others may wish to reduce the appearance of their labia to restore their pre-baby genital area after giving birth.

How Does Labiaplasty Work?

Before your labiaplasty procedure, the surgical team at Cornerstone Plastic Surgery will administer local or general anesthesia based on your personalized treatment plan and preference.

During your vaginal rejuvenation procedure, Dr. Coville may cut off excess vaginal tissue that has stretched. He may then stitch the labia’s edges with dissolvable sutures. This trim procedure aims to reduce the size of your labia while making your vaginal lips look more symmetrical. Another labiaplasty technique is the wedge procedure, which involves preserving the labia’s edges and removing tissue from the thickest part of the inner lips.

Labiaplasty takes around an hour to complete, depending on the procedure(s) you have done on the day of your vaginal rejuvenation treatment. Based on your cosmetic desires and goals, Dr. Coville may perform your labiaplasty in combination with other feminine wellness procedures like a mommy makeover or Votiva

Am I a Good Candidate for Labiaplasty?

If you are experiencing pain or discomfort during certain physical activities, such as sitting, walking, or having sex, you may benefit from Dr. Coville’s vaginal rejuvenation procedures. Moreover, you should be a healthy, non-smoking patient who is at least 18 years old and has realistic expectations about the procedure(s).

While many patients often seek labiaplasty to achieve a more “tucked in” appearance, it is important to remember that all labia come in different shapes and sizes. Since there is no standard labia size, you should undergo vaginal rejuvenation surgery for the right reasons.
