Platelet-rich plasma hair treatments use the healing components in your own blood to signal new hair growth by triggering cellular regeneration and collagen production. Your current platelet levels, amount of hair thinning, and overall health are factors that determine the effectiveness of the treatment.
During your treatment, Dr. Fred draws a sample of your blood that is then spun in a centrifuge. The centrifuge separates the blood into its individual parts, one of which is the PRP. After extracting the PRP, the practitioner injects the platelets into target areas to stimulate hair growth. The entire procedure typically takes around 30 minutes.
You may receive 6-12 injections per session, depending on the size of the treatment site. You will need multiple PRP hair treatments to see optimal results.
PRP hair treatment has little to no risk of side effects since it uses your own blood and does not require any incisions. Some of the other benefits include:
Unlike a hair transplant, PRP hair treatments do not require any downtime. You may experience mild redness or swelling at the injection site, but it is not noticeable.
Your PRP hair treatment should take 30 minutes or less to extract and inject the PRP. You will be able to receive your injections during your lunch break.
Unlike implants, PRP triggers your hair growth by signaling the target area’s healing components. Since your hair is growing with motivation from your own healing factors, your PRP hair treatment allows for the most natural-looking results.
You may notice your hair is denser and healthier than before your treatment. Since PRP boosts collagen and other protein production, your hair may be healthier than ever before.
Most healthy adults with realistic expectations are good candidates for PRP. The best results are seen in:
PRP is less effective for areas where follicles have fully miniaturized or disappeared. In these cases, Dr. Fred may recommend combining PRP with hair transplantation or other regenerative therapies offered at Cornerstone Plastic Surgery.
There is no downtime or recovery from a PRP hair treatment. You will be able to return to normal activity immediately following your appointment. The treatments require a series of around six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. You may not see noticeable results for approximately four months before hair density and quality improve.
Results are temporary, and hair loss will continue to progress with time. However, maintenance treatments every few months to a year will allow you to keep the hair growth and density results.
Before your treatment begins, you may choose to receive a numbing agent to prevent any discomfort. Treatments are quick and comfortable. You may experience a pinch from the injection with mild pressure, but it is virtually painless. Mild soreness following your appointment is normal.
