Nanofat is a regenerative injectable treatment created from your body’s own purified fat tissue. Unlike traditional fat grafting used for volume restoration, nanofat is processed into a smooth liquid rich in regenerative cells and growth factors that can improve skin tone, texture, scarring, and overall tissue quality. Dr. Fred performs nanofat injections in South Jersey and New Jersey to rejuvenate the face, scalp, under-eyes, and other delicate treatment areas using advanced regenerative techniques.
Cosmetic procedures use different types of fat for different procedures. These fats vary in extraction methods and their utility when injected. Dr. Fred Coville has been using three types of fat for many years in his Cornerstone Plastic Surgery practice. The main types of fat we use include macrofat, microfat, and nanofat.
Macrofat is typically required for large volume procedures, like the Jersey Shore Brazilian Butt Lift. To achieve the shape and size you desire, we transfer a bigger quantity of fat harvested through larger cannulas from donor sites like the abdomen or waist. These large fat globules are lightly processed to remove fluid and damaged cells before they’re injected into the targeted area. Macrofat can be used wherever larger volumes are needed, such as the buttocks or even breasts.
Microfat is employed to increase volume in more delicate areas like the face, lips, and below the eyes. It can also improve small scar depressions or be placed in the labia for feminine rejuvenation procedures. The cannulas collecting microfat are significantly smaller than those for macrofat, with much smaller fat particles being harvested as a result. This microfat is then processed to remove any oils and water before being injected into the treatment area.
Nanofat is microfat that goes through an additional processing step to modify its properties. It’s harvested with even smaller caliber cannulas than microfat. Following extraction, the fat is also purified. Where the two types of fat differ: nanofat undergoes a mechanical process to destroy the fat structure itself, leaving a complex mixture of regenerative cells and other components in the form of a smooth, injectable liquid. That’s nanofat.

Unlike macrofat and microfat, which are primarily injected below the skin to restore volume, nanofat is injected directly into the skin for its regenerative properties, providing a younger, healthier appearance to the treated area. Nanofat injections can be a standalone procedure to:
Apart from standalone procedures, injections can also be used alongside other non-surgical options to provide a combination treatment.
The Facial Time Warp, one of our most popular facial rejuvenation procedures, uses nanofat to bolster its revitalizing effects. Facial Time Warps combine microfat, nanofat, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for a full facial treatment.
During this process, microfat first restores volume to the face, followed by nanofat and PRP using a radiofrequency Morpheus microneedling device. This reinvigorates the skin while addressing scars, uneven skin tone, and other blemishes.
Nanofat is a key component in our non-surgical feminine rejuvenation treatments. Nanofat, microfat, and PRP are injected into the labia to restore volume and tighten lax skin. In addition to the aesthetic improvements, this feminine rejuvenation treatment also enhances sexual function and treats stress incontinence.
One of the most exciting aspects of nanofat facial rejuvenation is its ability to improve skin quality using your body’s own regenerative components. Through advanced nanofat processing, harvested fat is transformed into a smooth, injectable liquid rich in regenerative cells and growth factors that support healthier, more youthful-looking tissue.
One of the most popular treatment areas is the under-eye region. Nanofat under-eye injections can help improve crepey skin, dark circles, and tired-looking tissue while supporting healthier skin quality in this delicate area.
Nanofat facial treatments can be used throughout the cheeks, temples, around the mouth, and other areas of the face to improve skin quality, soften imperfections, and create a refreshed appearance.
Nanofat may help improve the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, and other textural irregularities by supporting tissue regeneration.
Nanofat can rejuvenate highly visible areas prone to thinning skin, sun damage, and age-related changes.
Nanofat is also used as part of regenerative feminine wellness treatments to improve tissue quality and support rejuvenation in intimate areas.
If you’ve noticed a greater prevalence of fine lines and wrinkles, sunken skin around your eyes, dark circles, and other signs of aging to your skin, you may be a great candidate for nanofat injections with Dr. Coville. Be sure to tell the doctor about your medications, smoking status, and the rest of your medical history to receive the maximum benefit of the procedure and Dr. Coville’s expert talents.
Pretreatment preparations and adherence to post-procedure instructions play a vital role in the success of your procedure. Following these simple instructions will ensure your final results are as good as they can possibly be.
The first step of your nanofat injection is meeting with our team. During your consultation, you will meet Dr. Coville. He will explain the procedure in detail and answer any questions you may have. Together you will explore the options available and draft a customized treatment plan.
On the day of your procedure, you will need to remove any hair from the donor site to facilitate the fat collection process. If you’re prone to cold sores or genital warts around the treatment or donor sites, you’ll need to use the appropriate pretreatment medication in advance of your procedure.
We will apply a topical anesthetic to both the treatment and donor sites to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. While topical anesthetics are typically used for nanofat treatments, you may also request oral sedatives and nitrous oxide gas.
The first step of the procedure involves removing fat from the donor site using a small caliber cannula. Depending on your body’s natural distribution of fat and your personal preferences, fat is typically collected from the inner thighs, inner knees, lower abdomen, or flanks.
Following extraction, Dr. Coville purifies the fat to remove any damaged cells or additional fluids. The fat is then mechanically processed to emulsify it, leaving a regenerative liquid that is ready to inject. During the final step of this process, nanofat is carefully injected into the tissue at the treatment site. The entire process takes approximately 90 minutes, with patients returning home immediately following treatment.

Successful nanofat treatment requires far more than simply harvesting and injecting fat. The quality of the results depends on proper fat collection, advanced nanofat processing, precise placement, and a thorough understanding of facial anatomy and tissue regeneration.
Dr. Fred Coville has been performing fat transfer and regenerative aesthetic procedures for more than 25 years and has helped pioneer many of the advanced techniques used in facial rejuvenation today. Every nanofat procedure at Cornerstone Plastic Surgery is performed by Dr. Coville personally, ensuring meticulous attention to detail throughout every stage of treatment.

The recovery process is fairly quick and simple. Mild swelling, bruising, and redness may occur around the injection site; however, these typically fade shortly after the procedure. In some cases, patients may experience mild, localized discomfort once the topical anesthetics wear off.
The procedure requires little downtime. While patients should avoid strenuous activities for up to 1 week, most people can return to work and their normal daily activities within 1-3 days.
Once the recovery process is complete for most patients, the final results take between 3-6 months to become fully apparent. In the months following treatment, patients should slowly begin to notice:
Patients can expect long-lasting results after only one nanofat treatment. While the injections can’t stop the natural aging process, the improvements provided by the procedure remain apparent for many years.
Yes. Nanofat is frequently combined with treatments such as PRP, Morpheus8, laser procedures, and traditional fat grafting to enhance overall rejuvenation. Combining treatments can address both volume loss and skin quality concerns simultaneously, creating more comprehensive results.
Only a small amount of fat is required to create nanofat. In most cases, enough fat can be harvested from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, or thighs using a minimally invasive collection process. Because such a small amount is needed, most patients are suitable candidates for treatment.
Nanofat contains regenerative cells and growth factors that help support tissue repair and skin rejuvenation. Over time, this regenerative activity can improve skin quality, elasticity, texture, and overall appearance, helping the treated area look healthier and more youthful.
